What an exciting few months it's been!
May saw the launch of my very first online Hammered Dulcimer course - until lockdown, I hadn't really thought about how the internet could be such an awesome way f connecting with other players!
"Learn to Play In 21 Days" was an exciting challenge aimed at people starting out on their Hammered Dulcimer journey. This is the first time I've tried anything like this and what an amazing experience it's been!
Participant ranged from those who were playing the Hammered Dulcimer for the first time to musicians who had taken a break and wanted to recap and find their motivation to play again!
We covered the basics from layout and tuning, to scales, chord patterns and on to learning some awesome tunes and adding our own embellishments and techniques to make them our own.
As this first course is coming to an end I can honestly say that I have learnt as much from others as I have shared with them and have made friends for life!
The next step is to rework some of the tuition videos so that the course can be made available to anyone at any time, so watch this space!
Alongside the online course I have also been working on an idea I have had for a long time which is to provide opportunities for people in Cornwall to try the Hammered Dulcimer for the very first time!
I have been sourcing spare instruments and have been lucky enough to have some donated. These will be used in community workshops as well as being available on loan for anybody interested in giving it a go before committing themselves to buying an instrument of their own!
My first live workshop was recently held at The Old Bakery Studios in Truro and was a huge success! There is no greater feeling for me than seeing people get their hands on a Hammered Dulcimer for the first time and coming away having played a tune in harmony with others after a couple of hours!
The feedback from everyone involved was so inspiring - I can't wait to see what happens next!

Kerensa's first solo album in 17 years! 'Hammering Home' features a collection of tunes which follow her musical journey from growing up in folk clubs and sessions of her teens, up to the point at which she returned to her Cornish Roots.
Dedicated to Kerensa's mum Sandy Wragg, who unfortunately passed away before the album was released.
